The Hotel Denver offers premier Glenwood Springs lodging and natural Western hospitality. It was recently transformed into an elegant modern hotel while preserving its historic heritage and grand appearance in the center of downtown Glenwood Springs. If this snow would stop and the wind would die down a bit we really could hit the courts after a long tennis-less winter. Glenwood Springs is a great place to get back in shape and sharpen your game and have some fun. There are several options for free tennis at a few of the parks in town. Why not get out and have some fun and play some tennis. If you haven’t played for awhile, it’s time to get back out. The days are getting longer and admit it, you are getting bored with the same old stuff on TV right? Five Love!
The 2010 Country Jam in Grand Junction Colorado is scheduled for June 24 through June 27. The Country Jam is a fantastic event with some very talented stars set to rock your country heart. Lined up are some featured bands and performers as Sawyer Brown, Lee Ann Womack, Trac Adkins, Alan Jackson, and Keith Urban, to name a few. Even that guy, Danny Gokey, from American Idol will be perfoming Sunday afternoon, June 27th at 4:30 p.m. So it looks like it will be a very enjoyable show. When traveling to and from the show, remember Hotel Denver as a nice place to stop and rest.
There have been many comments from our guests stating that the flow through Glenwood Canyon after the rockslide is quick and easy. Taking into consideration the magnitude of the damage caused by the slide. Traffic is flowing in one lane in each direction and being maintained by flag personnel. We have not heard a single complaint about the handling of the traffic and progress. According to CDOT, it will still be a couple of months before work is completed and traffic will be back to normal. Stay tuned!
I-70 is now allowing traffic through Glenwood Canyon after a major rockslide shut down all 4 lanes for nearly 4 days. We can finally get back to business as usual after several very quiet days here in Glenwood Springs. CDOT officials say that the complete repair of the road will take months. In the meantime, traffic will be relegated to one lane in both directions.
Crews have already began removing debris from a rock fall that has Interstate 70 closed in both directions at the Hanging Lake Tunnel in the Glenwood Canyon. The interstate is currently closed between Glenwood Springs and Dotsero.
The road will be closed until further notice. If you are traveling east in I-70, Hotel Denver still has rooms available. 402 7th Street.
That’s right, February and early March are great months to get in the river and catch some trout. The Roaring Fork and Frying Pan rivers are Gold Medal rivers year round but this time of year, they are exceptional. You just need to know what to use to get them to rise and right now, the right bait is a midge as they are spawning right now in droves. Early late afternoon are great times to take advantage of the hungry fish below the ripples. Particularly after their long cold winter.
So grab your fly rod and your midge collection and head to Glenwood Springs and The Hotel Denver to have a nice winter fest in the rivers.
Once again we have been dumped upon by the Snow Gods and it is good. Sunlight Mountain Ski Resort reported an additional two inches in the last 24 hours with a base of 56 inches.
This weekend we have had a great number of guests that wanted slash needed to get out of the city and come to Glenwood Springs. The roads were clear along most of I-70 so it was smooth sailing for folks on their way to Hotel Denver. Skis and dogs in tow. I spoke to one guest, a very nice gentleman from Denver, who is hitting the hill today while his wife enjoys a nice massage and spa day at The Spa of the Rockies. He said it was going to be a perfect day, finsished off with dinner and beer at the Glenwood Canyon Brewing Company. He looked very happy.
Snow is not the only thing moving through the Roaring Fork Valley this week as more than 200 of the best action sports athletes have followed it into town. Locals and visiting sports fans alike are gearing up for this year’s Winter X Games which is to be held at Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado.
Competitors from around the world are set to begin competition tomorrow with day and evening events scheduled through Sunday. Names like Shaun White, Lindsey Jacobellis and Nate Holland are one of the reasons so many have already planned their weekend getaway to the valley.

This morning we were blessed with a great storm that blanketed the streets and sidewalks and most importantly, the mountains. Our hills are white again! So far today, Sunlight Ski Resort has reported 14 inches of the white stuff with more on the way!
The time is perfect to come to Glenwood Springs and stay at The Hotel Denver and ski Sunlight. Their lift passes are much less than other local ski resorts and the mountain is just as fantastic. Not to mention the Glenwood Hot Springs. Have you ever relaxed comfortably in a 94 degree massive pool during a snowstorm with a bunch of strangers? It is a very memorable experience and one that affords a try or two.
